Introduction
Started this blog in response to Alternophobia (I think that's what they're called), but is more specifically about heavy metal, the bands and the fans. In other words, metalheads.
Another reason was that I found out my Geocities site (powered my Yahoo) is no longer available, except through the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) and Geocities Ws (http://www.geocities.ws/). Part of this site was, of course, Logsnapper's Soabox, which I wrote about how I was treated and what it was like to be growing up 'Australian and Antichrist'.
This is not to say I am against Christianity, or any other religion in any way, shape or form. The slogan, Australian and Antichrist is simply a song title by the Melbourne-based Black Metal outfit, Destroyer 666. When I examined the lyrics of this song, what I saw was not against Christianity per se, but a statement about what it is like to be a headbanger (Heavy Metal fan) in Australia.
I was brought up to be a Christian. I was taught to live a 'clean' and 'decent' life, to live life to the fullest, to obey God's commandments, to treat others the way I wish to be treated and most of all, to be the best person I can possibly be.
Of course, trying to be a Christian in today's secular world is not easy. There are all types of temptations put before me, and so far, I have resisted most of them (except for chocolate, of course). One of these is heavy metal.
Heavy metal is one of those genres accused of being the 'devil's music' and there are all sorts of temptations: Satanism, alcohol, smoking, illicit drugs, sex, violence and even bondage. Some would even go as far to say that it is qualitatively different from other types of music, even punk, and even suggest it has a 'devil's chord' in it's composition. When I find out more about this 'devils chord', I will write something about it.
And because of these misconceptions, alot of people have been unfairly sigmatized (including myself).
So, for anyone who joins in on my blog, I hope you enjoy my rantings.
cheers
