Metal Inquisition - Article Review

http://metalinquisition.blogspot.com.au/2009/02/metal-inquisition-investigative-report_20.html Yes, I must admit that this came as a surprise to me as to what one of the world's *heaviest* metal band members actually do throughout their daily lives; and yet, on the other hand, it doesn't really surprise me. What I do know is that the members of Manowar sell plenty of albums, and live concerts at festivals worldwide - they must make alot of money. But this money doesn't last - the band also has expenses to pay, particularly when they are on tour and on the road: the road crew and logistics people, the equipment, the pyrotechnics, venues and the like.  These 'expenses' take a monumental proportion out of their incomes. Hence, they have to take on 'real jobs' in their spare time, and/or continue to live with their parents. Some of the replies to this post kind of make me sad, though - okay, Mr DeMaio has complained a number of times about poseur bands...

Article Review

How 90 seconds of rock can get you rolling? I haven't done any article reviews for some time on this blog, but someone posted this on my Facebook page, I just had to put my '2 cents worth' in. Dr Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, a professor in human behaviour, noted various ways one can improve productivity in the work place.  And this included playing Rock Music 'mid morning' to wake up the minds of employees when it has been hours since they have had breakfast (or morning tea) but still have a while to wait before lunch (or in my case, since I had my first meal of the day, until the meal break during my shift, which is a night shift). And when the wee hours of the morning get a bit much, then it is time to *crank it up* in terms of 'heaviness', volume or speed.  Out comes the iPod, and on comes the Thrash (or whatever it is I am listening to at the time).  It's enough to keep me from getting bored at work while I am sorting mail - especially when I have ...

Vera AKA Miss Adventure flirts with Miss Alternative

All, My friend (who calls herself Vera Metallum on Facebook and used to call herself Pagan Baby on Yahoo) has just entered the Miss Alternative 2010 'Beauty' Pagent.  Her decision to enter this competition prompted her to ask herself what is the definition of 'alternative'. This is a long 'essay' that she published on Facebook regarding the 'ins and outs' of being 'alternative' and what it means to be 'alternative'.  The essay begins with a definition of 'alternative'. Citing from http://www.dictionary.com/ , she states that an alternative (as a noun) is a choice limited to one of two or more possibilities, as of two things, propositions, or courses of action, the selection of which precludes the other possibility. one of the things, propositions, or courses of action that can be chosen. A possible or remaining course or choice. While as an adjective, it means Affording a choice of two or more things, propositions or courses...

How to Stop Being Mean to People - wikiHow

How to Stop Being Mean to People - wikiHow Anyone can stop being mean (as in cruel, vindictive or nasty), as in 'outright mean' but we all have 'mean' thoughts about people, which drive us to be mean to them. It is also easy to be mean to others if you, yourself, feel put down also. It is hard to be positive when you feel there is not much to be positive about, and expecially if you are being negated by someone. A few ways to be nicer to others (or not being mean) are to improve your own self esteem, to find a reason to feel good about yourself, and be kind (or kinder) to yourself. Another way is to feel 'sorry' for the other person, to ask yourself why they *feel* the need to put yourself down, or if you feel the need to put them down, ask yourself why? It doesn't mean you have to be deferential to that person, but you can be civil. For instance, if you find them annoying for some reason, ask them (very kindly) to do something differently (eg, if they ar...

Chinese Proverb

I see, I forget. I hear, I remember. I do, I understand. Moral: You can only understand something by trying it yourself The relevance to Heavy Metal: you only understand heavy metal by listening to the songs and the bands, knowing the lyrics, knowing the fans, knowing 'what's not (and what's not)' in the heavy metal scene (in other words, what's popular and what's not), going to gigs etcetera etcetra. Let's break it down: I see, I forget: If you only see something once, say on Tv, or hear it on the radio, then you will have little chance of remembering. I hear, I remember: The more you hear it, the more of it you will remember. I do, I understand: But the more you immerse yourself in the scene (ie the more you do), the more you understand.
