Metal Inquisition - Article Review

http://metalinquisition.blogspot.com.au/2009/02/metal-inquisition-investigative-report_20.html

Yes, I must admit that this came as a surprise to me as to what one of the world's *heaviest* metal band members actually do throughout their daily lives; and yet, on the other hand, it doesn't really surprise me.

What I do know is that the members of Manowar sell plenty of albums, and live concerts at festivals worldwide - they must make alot of money.

But this money doesn't last - the band also has expenses to pay, particularly when they are on tour and on the road: the road crew and logistics people, the equipment, the pyrotechnics, venues and the like.  These 'expenses' take a monumental proportion out of their incomes.

Hence, they have to take on 'real jobs' in their spare time, and/or continue to live with their parents.

Some of the replies to this post kind of make me sad, though - okay, Mr DeMaio has complained a number of times about poseur bands, and sure, that might make him sound either bitter and twisted, or narcissistic (I mean, who doesn't want to be 'the best').

But, on the other hand, maybe he's got his own reasons for 'having an attitude' - after all, Manowar, and many bands like them, have paid their dues, and because of that and their technical ability (including his brilliant double picking, 12-string bass solos) - I think they deserve at some success.

Okay, their image and music are 'cheesy' but so what?  So are Kiss and Abba - which is what makes it even more 'fun' :)

And yes, owing to the fact he (DeMaio) still lives with his parents in the basementf of their house, which is quite modest in comparison to the dwellings lesser talented musicians and celebrities live in - well, at least he still has a home to go to and a family that have stood by him, no matter what.

And, they are at least working in legitimate jobs, are healthy and not selling drugs or doing other illegal stuff (well, not to my knowledge anyway).  I mean, you gotta give credit where it's due.

Anyway, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

cheers,
Night Owl
