Kitty Flanagan - On Screaming Teenage Girls (I love this woman)

I am not a One Direction fan but I can relate to this, as I remember during my younger years, kids on Countdown squealing to whatever teen idols were on stage e.g. Sherbert and Bay City Rollers during the 70's; Duran Duran and Culture Club during the 1980's.  Even when the Beatles were no longer around, I still vividly remember the cartoon shows screened on TV (even during the 70's and 80's) with girlies chasing them during the credits.  What a scream (excuse the pun)???

The amount of hysterics amongst the teenage girls is unbelievable.  Kitty compares the sound to some squawking peacocks, but to me, it sounds like they are on a Roller Coaster ride or watching a Horror Movie.  But what if some 'disaster' were to really happen on one of the rides at a carnival, and people were really going to be killed.  Then we'd really have something to scream about, wouldn't we?

My own memories of being a 'swooning' teenager were many.   I remember writing in my diary (paper diary at the time) about all the sexy metal guys I saw on TV, during the 1980's especially.   Out of all those bands I had the 'hots' for were Judas Priest, and KK Downing most of all (what was there not to have 'the hots' for in a 'heterosexual' white female heavy metal fan's book???).  Not to mention the disappointment I suffered when I found out there was at least one woman in his life, if not more.  After that, I completely went off Priest (at least for a few years anyway).  Talk about 'Screaming for Vengeance'??? (the 'hate' song)???  Or '(Take These) Chains' (off my heart)?  Is that the song that says it all when no matter what I do, or how far away I get, there will be 'chains' around my heart 'binding' me to someone I love?  Or maybe someone should *beat him* into submission :P

Now I am a woman in my mid-40's (fast forward 27 years), all I can say is that Priest (and KK especially) are a group of musicians from the 'midlands' in the UK, alongside Sabbath.  And these days, I don't really wish all these things on anyone, let alone these 'Pommies' (Prisoners of His/Her Majesty).   I am only one descendant of a bunch of settlers and/or convicts, presumably from the British Isles and Ireland, and if I happen to be a descendant of a convict somewhere in time, the 'chains' of my anscestors have been removed a long time ago.  Now's the time to 'Take These Chains' from my heart, and many other females' hearts as well, throughout time and in every place too, and to stop 'beating us into submission' as well.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that Priest will be my own 'teen idols' in my own mind (and heart only); they may be other womens' as well, or maybe even gay males.  As musicians, they will still be my 'metal gods' and I might even be their 'turbo lover' and they might even have me 'locked in' (locked inside their love) - somewhere in this world.  But, it is really time to 'scream for vengeance' against those 'No Direction' Tyrants, and their silly squealing followers before 'some heads are gonna roll'

cheers,

From this female Priest fan
(in response to Kitty Flanagan and her YouTube video regarding One Direction, who I hope will appreciate the concern for their safety and well-being, and that of their numerous teenage and mostly female fans).
